I am at a Loss

What do you do when the doctors and books all tell you to never let your baby sleep on their stomach, and you scared to death about SIDS, but your baby sleeps so peacefully on her stomach. This is where I am at a loss. Liv loves sleeping on her stomach and I have been letting her while I am awake during the day, but the past two early mornings she has slept on her tummy(right next to our bed) while I have slept, which means we were both sleeping. But of course I am terrified about SIDS, so is it really worth it? Do I risk it? What do I do? Other than that life is great. Liv already seems to be getting so much bigger. And I know every parent thinks this, but she seems so advanced. She seems to be smiling to reactions already, she is so aware of her surroundings. she can hold her head up, and when she is awake on her tummy she can pick her head up and move it from one side to the other. She is amazing, and a lot of work that is still so new. I know this sounds crazy and don't think for one minute we are planning anything, but I can't wait to have a second baby so I can be more relaxed and full of the knowledge Liv has taught us! She is a good teacher! We love her and are loving life right now, the crazy lives we have! Here are some more pictures of our cutie. The first one made us laugh, I had gotten her all ready to go to my parents house to meet one of my aunts, when we got there and took her blanket off this is what we found. She was still sound asleep. And the last pictures are showing off her curls. Curly hair was the one thing I predicted she would have, and she has them, I love it!

Kenya sleeps best on her sides. I think that your sanity and sleep is sometimes worth it. Kenya actually rolls to her side when sleeping. She was doing this in the hospital. So, ultimately it is up to the parents on weather or not to let the baby sleep on stomach or sides. One thing that a friend told me was that their Dr said this... As your doctor I will tell you to always have your baby sleep on their back. As a friend and parent, let the baby sleep however it is comfortable. That put me to ease a little bit.

HAH!!! I have a picture EXACTLY like that first one of Katie Marie, several actually. That is sooo funny. I just went to Belinda's two month check-up and they asked me all those questions: does your baby move her head from side to side following an object? does she lift her head? does she smile? etc. It sounds like Liv is doing great!!! About the whole sleeping on the tummy thing, I'm kind of paranoid about that too. Katie Marie had no problem sleeping on her back, but Belinda doesn't like it that much. I keep refusing to put her on her tummy though and so she has slept in her bouncy chair for the last two months. My doctor said his last son slept in his bouncy chair for 8 months, so I guess I'm not too concerned with it for now. By the time that she is too old for her bouncy chair she'll be able to roll over and position herself any way she wants to in her crib and I won't have any say in the matter. I don't know what to tell you, but I wouldn't fret too much over it as long as you feel okay about it. I do have to say that Liv is gorgeous, I totally love her light curly hair. She is soooo cute!!!

You sound just like me. Ava feel asleep on her tummy once for a nap, and I was too nervous to leave the room and kept checking on her breathing. I made myself crazy with SIDS. They scare you to death. When she was like 6 weeks old, I was like, well if the Lord wants her back, it is beyond my control, so I need to just relax. That was all I could think to calm down my hormonal sleep deprived self. Good luck. I am also excited for our second, cause hopefully I will have more fun and not worry so much about breaking them. :) She is adorable, and I am so jealous of the curl!

It looks like you have received good advice! I worked in a daycare back in the day and I would just have to have the parents sign a permission slip so that babies could sleep on thier backs. You would be surprised at how many chose to do that. I know they seem so breakable right now. You are doing such a good job!!!!

Hey there. Liv is so adorable. I love the hair. Sorry it didn't work out that we could see you last week we got busy with stuff for the wedding. But we may be possibly moving to Spokane. That would be cool huh? You know you will get so many people giving you adivce and you will read so many things but ultimately you have to do what is right for you and your baby and it may be against what everyone else is telling you. Jayden liked to sleep on his sides at first and it helped him breath better. But I do know of several mom's who let their babies sleep on their tummy's and they were just fine. Just pray about it and follow the spirit of what you think is the best thing to do for Liv.

Coulson has slept on his tummy since he was little tiny. I tried to fight it but it was either he slept well on his tummy or woke up every 20 minutes on his back or side. I pretty much agree with Catherine... you have to do what is best for your baby no matter what others say sometimes. Good luck and just pray. She is beautiful!
